Stage 5 / Year 9 and 10 excursions
Our Stage 5 (Year 9 and Year 10) excursions provide immersive learning experiences in the natural environment that challenge students to investigate, evaluate and apply their knowledge to complex real-world contexts. Delivered by qualified NSW Department of Education teachers, programs are aligned to the Geography and Science syllabuses and support students to develop critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of environmental, cultural and sustainability connections.
At Brewongle Environmental Education Centre, Aboriginal perspectives are embedded across all programs. While Aboriginal Culture may not always be the primary focus, we incorporate meaningful cultural learning opportunities that help students develop an understanding of Country, culture and community.
Selected programs also include authentic, place-based learning led by a Cultural Educator or Aboriginal Education Teacher through shared knowledge, stories and hands-on experiences.
Geography
Environmental change and management
Students investigate the natural environment at Brewongle and explore how environmental change can be managed over time through Indigenous land use practices and contemporary geographical fieldwork tools.

Biomes and sustainable agriculture
Students explore permaculture and Aboriginal knowledge at Brewongle to discover sustainable and resilient approaches to future food production

Through a hands-on geographical inquiry students investigate permaculture practises at Brewongle EEC.

Science
Environmental sustainability - Good fire, bad fire
Students explore how Aboriginal cool burning practices sustainably manage Country, promote biodiversity and reduce the risk of destructive bushfires.
Science - new syllabus program
Ecology - Monitor Measures
Students will investigate whether the lace monitor is under threat by conducting field research to assess its population health, behaviour, and habitat conditions within the local forest ecosystem.
