Secondary Biology programs

Brewongle Environmental Education Centre provides engaging, hands-on Biology fieldwork experiences for Stage 6 students. Located on Dharug Country at Sackville North in North West Sydney, our programs provide authentic opportunities for students to investigate biological concepts through practical, inquiry-based and place-based learning.

Using Brewongle’s diverse natural environment, including bushland and Dyarubbin – the Hawkesbury River, students undertake authentic field investigations exploring biodiversity, ecosystems, populations, adaptations and interactions between organisms and their environment. Students develop scientific knowledge and practical skills through ecological sampling, observation, data collection, analysis and evaluation in real-world environments.

Programs are delivered by NSW Department of Education teachers and designed to support the NSW Biology 11–12 Syllabus (2025). Through authentic fieldwork and scientific inquiry, students apply biological knowledge, use appropriate fieldwork techniques, collect and analyse primary data, evaluate evidence and develop a deeper understanding of biological systems and the processes that influence organisms and ecosystems.

Excursion

Module 4 - Ecosystem dynamics depth study

This authentic investigation explores the population dynamics and interactions between the native Spotted-tailed Quoll and feral Red Fox, with pre- and post-visit activities and an assessment task contributing to a nine-hour depth study.
