Secondary Earth and Environmental Science programs

Brewongle Environmental Education Centre provides engaging, hands-on Earth and Environmental Science fieldwork experiences for Stage 6 students. Located on Dharug Country at Sackville North in North West Sydney, our programs provide authentic opportunities for students to investigate Earth systems and environmental processes through practical, inquiry-based and place-based learning.

Using Brewongle’s diverse natural environment, including bushland and Dyarubbin – the Hawkesbury River, students undertake authentic field investigations exploring Earth’s systems, environmental processes, ecosystems, human impacts and environmental change. Students develop scientific knowledge and practical skills through field observations, environmental sampling, data collection, analysis and evaluation in real-world environments.

Programs are delivered by NSW Department of Education teachers and designed to support the NSW Earth and Environmental Science 11–12 Syllabus (2025). Through authentic fieldwork and scientific inquiry, students apply scientific knowledge, use appropriate fieldwork techniques, collect and analyse primary data, evaluate evidence and develop a deeper understanding of Earth’s systems, environmental processes and the interactions between people and the environment.

Excursion

Module 4 - Human impacts depth study

This inquiry-based excursion explores how introduced species affect Australian environments and ecosystems, focusing on the impacts of the red fox at Brewongle EEC through fieldwork techniques including camera traps and nest box fauna surveys, with optional depth study extensions.

Stage 6 (Year 11 and 12) program
