Camp overview
The Writers in the Environment camp is an immersive 3 day literacy program specifically designed for Year 5 and 6 students as part of the Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) initiative. This program offers gifted and high potential students a unique opportunity to be challenged creatively, intellectually, and socially in a supportive and stimulating environment.
Set in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Brewongle Environmental Education Centre, the camp encourages students to connect deeply with nature, finding inspiration to fuel their creativity and storytelling. The program is carefully tailored to develop and extend students’ writing skills, helping them broaden their literary repertoire while nurturing their passion for creative expression.
Participants engage in dynamic and interactive workshops led by popular children’s authors, where they explore a variety of writing styles, genres, and techniques. These expert-led sessions provide rich opportunities for students to refine their craft, gain insider knowledge about the writing process, and receive feedback in a collaborative and encouraging setting.
In addition to honing their writing abilities, students develop their social-emotional skills through team-building activities and reflective practices designed to boost resilience, empathy, and interpersonal communication. This holistic approach ensures participants grow not only as writers but also as confident, thoughtful individuals.
As a HPGE program, the Writers in the Environment Camp is tailored to meet the advanced learning needs of gifted students, ensuring that they are both challenged and supported throughout the experience. Students benefit from being surrounded by like-minded peers who share their enthusiasm for writing and creativity, fostering a vibrant community of young authors.
By the end of the camp, students leave equipped with enhanced writing skills, inspired ideas, and a deeper connection to the natural world and their fellow participants. Whether your child is an emerging author or passionate about exploring creative writing, this camp offers an enriching and unforgettable experience designed to elevate their potential.
Author Masterclass Program - in partnership with Littlescribe
In 2026, Brewongle Environmental Education Centre is excited to collaborate with Littlescribe to provide students with access to the Author Masterclass Program.
A story-first company built by educators who believe in the power of every child’s voice, Littlescribe exists to inspire a lifelong love of writing. Through expert modelling, creativity, and support, Littlescribe empowers students to discover and share stories that can shape hearts, minds, and the world around them. Today, Littlescribe is recognised as one of Australia’s leading student writing platforms, partnering with schools and celebrated Australian authors across the country.
As part of the collaboration, participating schools are invited to extend the learning beyond camp through the Littlescribe Author Masterclass Program.
This pathway connects your whole Stage 3 cohort and or school — not just the students attending camp — through storytelling, connection to Country, environment and student voice.
Students will connect with leading Australian storytellers, including authentic First Nations voices, while building literacy, creativity and communication skills through meaningful writing experiences linked to place and real-world learning.
Featured presenters include Dub Leffler, Boori Monty Pryor, Zeno Sworder, Jackie French, Violet FitzSimons and more.
Students attending Writers in the Environment camp can prepare writing beforehand, deepen observations during camp, and contribute to a shared Brewongle environmental book afterwards. The broader Stage 3 cohort can also participate back at school through the same storytelling experiences.
The program is flexible and teacher-ready, allowing schools to use as much or as little as suits their timetable and literacy program. Live workshops run 4–6 August 2026, with on-demand access until December 2026.
Brewongle visiting schools can access a partnership group rate by registering directly with Littlescribe using the Brewongle partnership code. Simply mention BREWONGLE to obtain discount. Littlescribe has recently been appointed as a NSW Department of Education supplier, with contract terms agreed and formal sign-off expected shortly.
