Activity 1 - 1878 classroom lesson

Soak up the atmosphere of our 1878 classroom with its sandstone fireplace, polished wooden desks and flickering oil lamps. Students will experience the features of school life in the late 1800s. They will participate in a traditional lesson that includes strict rules, writing on slate and a cane wielding teacher.

Activity 2 - Games from the past

Students will compare features of play that have changed over time by engaging with a variety of games from the past including marbles, hoops and traditional indigenous games.

Activity 3 - Transport including a traditional bark canoe

Students will see first hand how transport has changed over time at Sackville North. They will have the opportunity to engage with a traditionally made bark canoe made by Aboriginal knowledge holders and local Aboriginal students, and a boat constructed in the late 1800s used to transport students to school.

Activity 4 - Interactive story with cultural objects

Students will see and handle a variety of Aboriginal cultural objects as they listen to the interactive story of Doris (a fictional local Dharug girl and student at the Sackville North Public School) and her dilemma.
