Living world - Pond predators

 

This program offers a hands on scientific investigation into pond ecosystems, life cycles and classification. Students will collect, sort and record data before submitting data to the National Waterbug Blitz, a citizen science database.

Literacy & Numeracy Learning Progressions

This program supports student learning in various Elements of the Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions.

 

Activity 1 - Dipnetting

Students discover which bugs live in the Brewongle ponds. They will identify and group all bugs and record data on abundance. Data will be submitted to the National Waterbug Blitz.

 

Activity 2 - Structure, Function & Classification

Part A. Students utilise our Earthlab with microscopes and insect and frog models to classify living things and draw them with scratch art.

Part B. How can we group living things by observable features?

 

Activity 3 - Interconnections of Ecosystems

Students play our food web game to experience how the food web works and learn about the consequences of water pollution.

 

Activity 4 - Tiddalik Sand Art Story

Students will learn the story of ‘Tiddalik the frog’ and create a sand art story that they will take back to school.

Bus  details

Buses are booked by the visiting school.

A map to the bus parking will be sent with the schools confirmation email. Please ensure you print the map and give to the bus driver the morning of the excursion.

Up to 6 classes per day or 180 students.

Maximum 30 students per class
