Wednesday webinar - making a traditional canoe

Wednesday webinar image

Apologies! We had some technical issues with the Zoom link for our planned webinar on 1/9/21. We will try again! Please note the new time.

Wednesday 8th September 2021

1:30-2pm

Join us a we read a Darug story about Dyarubbin - The Hawkesbury River and learn how to make a traditional bark canoe.

If you come prepared with the materials below you can make your own mini canoe during the session! I wonder if it will float?

What you need:

  • Some cardboard like a cereal box. Thin cardboard will be best. If you have a paperbark tree then a section of paperbark will work too! About the size of a cereal box
  • String and scissors
  • a few sticks - about the size and length of a pencil
  • Some wet clay or mud - optional!

You could watch this video beforehand to see how we made our big canoe with high school students in 2018!

Here is a recording of the webinar: https://youtu.be/c7vvQN4gOQo

NSW Dept of Ed students can upload pictures of their canoe via this link
